March 2011 Melbourne, Australia

Chuck Hudson’s work at the Dame Nellie Melba Opera Trust in Melbourne, Australia is featured on the company’s website.

Renowned New York director, Chuck Hudson and vocal repetiteur, Sharolyn Kimmorley led a two-day stagecraft & movement workshop for scholarship recipients as part of the Trust’s Mentor Program in February 2011.

Our young singers worked with Chuck on applying acting techniques to enhance the character of their performances both in audition and recital environments. A protégé of Marcel Marceau, Chuck brought an entirely different approach to character with a focus on the physical and visual aspects of stagecraft.

During the two-day workshop he worked with the singers individually and as a group. He empowered them to use their bodies with appropriate movement, be aware of the space around them and provided them with physical strategies to complement the story they were telling through the music.

Chuck has extensive directing and coaching experience with leading opera companies, developing artist programs and music institutions in America, Italy and South Africa. He provided recipients with a candid insight into the international opera scene and a realistic understanding of their next steps.
